The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa was represented at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly, which concluded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 15 February 2026.
COMESA Secretary General, Her Excellency Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe, attended the two day summit of African Heads of State and Government, where discussions focused on the continent’s peace and security situation and other strategic matters.
The Assembly welcomed Évariste Ndayishimiye as Chairperson of the African Union for 2026 and unveiled the theme for the year, “Ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063.”
On the sidelines, Kapwepwe held several high level engagements and bilateral meetings to advance COMESA’s regional integration agenda and strengthen cooperation with the African Union.
