Rabat, Morocco – The Confédération Africaine de Football Disciplinary Board has sanctioned the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football and the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football following incidents that occurred during the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.
The ruling, released by CAF, follows disciplinary proceedings linked to breaches of the CAF Disciplinary Code during the final match played in Morocco, where Senegal and hosts Morocco were involved in post match misconduct involving players officials and supporters.
On the Senegalese side, CAF handed a five match suspension to national team head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw. The ban applies to official CAF competitions and comes with a fine of USD 100,000. CAF found the coach guilty of unsporting conduct and actions that brought the game into disrepute.
Two Senegal players were also sanctioned. Iliman Cheikh Baroy Ndiaye received a two match suspension for unsporting behaviour towards the referee. Ismaila Sarr was handed an identical two match ban for similar conduct directed at match officials.
CAF further imposed heavy financial penalties on the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football. The federation was fined USD 300,000 for the improper conduct of its supporters which violated principles of fair play and integrity. An additional USD 300,000 fine was imposed for the unsporting behaviour of Senegal players and technical staff during the final. A further USD 15,000 fine followed after five Senegal players were cautioned during the match, bringing total fines against FSF to USD 615,000.
Morocco also faced disciplinary action stemming from the same final. Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi was suspended for two official CAF matches, with one of those matches suspended for a period of one year from the date of the decision. The sanction relates to unsporting behaviour.
Ismaël Saibari received a three match suspension and was fined USD 100,000 for his conduct during the match. The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football was fined USD 200,000 for the inappropriate behaviour of ball boys at the stadium during the final.
CAF also fined FRMF USD 100,000 for the conduct of Moroccan players and technical staff who invaded the VAR review area and obstructed the referee’s work, in violation of Articles 82 and 83 of the CAF Disciplinary Code. A further USD 15,000 fine was imposed on the Moroccan federation following the use of lasers by supporters during the match.
The CAF Disciplinary Board also ruled on a protest lodged by the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football against the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football. Morocco had alleged violations of Articles 82 and 84 of the Africa Cup of Nations regulations. CAF dismissed the protest and upheld the result of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 final.
