Rabat – Eswatini found representation on Africa’s biggest football platform after FIFA-accredited referee Letticia Antonella Viana received a gold medal at the conclusion of the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Viana was part of the officiating team for the final played between Morocco and Senegal, where she served as Assistant Video Assistant Referee. The match marked the climax of the continental tournament and was staged before a global television audience, placing her work under intense scrutiny.
Her selection for the final followed a series of strong performances earlier in the competition, with the Confederation of African Football and FIFA entrusting her with key responsibilities as the tournament progressed. She was the only female official involved in the final, a moment that carried significance for women in football officiating across the continent.
During the tournament, Viana handled five matches at different stages, including the semifinal between Senegal and Egypt. She also officiated fixtures involving DR Congo and Benin, Tanzania and Tunisia, and Algeria and Nigeria, encounters that tested decision making and composure.
