Dakar – Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has been suspended from all Confederation of African Football competitions following his actions during the AFCON 2025 final against host nation Morocco.
CAF’s disciplinary committee found that Thiaw breached competition rules after instructing his players to walk off the pitch in protest over a controversial refereeing decision late in the match. Senegal later returned to complete the game, winning 1–0 after extra time, but CAF described the technical bench’s actions as unacceptable and damaging to the integrity of the match.
A CAF statement confirmed that Thiaw has been suspended and fined, meaning Senegal will compete in upcoming CAF-sanctioned fixtures without their head coach. The Senegalese Football Federation is expected to appoint interim arrangements during the ban.
CAF noted that the sanctions were applied under its disciplinary code, stressing that discipline and respect for match officials are mandatory even in high-pressure matches like a continental final. The governing body warned that similar conduct in the future would result in tougher penalties.
