Mbabane – A Matsapha worker and a four-year-old boy have died in separate incidents, with police opening inquest dockets to establish the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The latest incident claimed the life of a 36-year-old man from kaNdlunganye after he was trapped beneath a one-tonne bag of sugar at a company in Matsapha.
The incident was discovered on Friday, September 4, 2026, at around 7:40am.
The man was rushed to Mbabane Government Hospital for medical treatment, but died while receiving treatment.
Matsapha Police have since launched an inquest into the incident as investigations continue to establish what led to the bag falling on the employee.
Child killed by falling pillar
A day earlier, tragedy struck at a home in the Tshaneni policing area when a four-year-old boy died after a brick pillar collapsed on him.
The incident happened on Thursday, September 3, at about 11am.
According to police, the child was playing with other children around a house which had become dilapidated when the pillar fell on him.
He died as a result of the incident.
Tshaneni Police have opened an inquest docket to establish the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Following the incident, the Royal Eswatini Police Service has reminded parents and guardians to closely supervise young children and ensure that they remain within sight of an adult.
Police have cautioned that children should not be allowed to play around unsafe or dilapidated structures, where they could be exposed to serious danger.
