Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba voiced confidence in the club’s new signings ahead of the second half of the season at the 2026 Nedbank Cup launch, saying they will strengthen Sundowns’ push for domestic and continental trophies by adding depth and competition across the squad.
Modiba believes the latest additions have arrived at the right time to reinforce the club’s ambition of maintaining dominance at home while mounting a serious CAF Champions League challenge.
The Brazilians recently bolstered their squad with the signings of attackers Monnapule Saleng and Brayan León, along with defender Khulumani Ndamane, as they prepare for a demanding schedule that includes the Betway Premiership, Nedbank Cup, and continental commitments. Modiba said the new recruits bring much-needed quality and depth as the season intensifies.
Saleng joins Sundowns with a proven track record in the PSL following standout performances for Orlando Pirates, while León arrives from Colombia as a developing prospect. Ndamane, meanwhile, earned his move after an impressive breakthrough season with TS Galaxy, further strengthening Sundowns’ defensive options.
“They are very good signings for us and hopefully they can help us in the team,” Modiba said, highlighting the importance of squad depth as Sundowns compete on multiple fronts.
The versatile full-back, who recently returned from Africa Cup of Nations duty with Bafana Bafana, also underlined the club’s desire to end their long wait for Nedbank Cup success. Sundowns have been drawn against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora United in the last 32.
“This is a tournament that has been eluding us for a long time,” he said. “We’ve lost in the final before, and that’s never nice. Our aim is to go further than last season and hopefully win it.”
Focus will now shift back to league action, with Sundowns set to resume their Betway Premiership campaign against ORBIT College at Loftus Versfeld on Monday night. Modiba stressed that a strong restart is essential as the champions look to set the tone for the remainder of the campaign.
“Every game in the PSL is tough,” he said. “Those three points are very important so that we start the year in a good way.”
