MBABANE – Minister for Tourism and Environmental Affairs Jane Mkhonta Simelane has unveiled the Kings Golf Cup Tournament 2026 task team, describing the event as an important contributor to tourism growth and economic activity in Eswatini.
The minister made the announcement in Mbabane during the official unveiling of the new team, saying the tournament, established in 2004 under the patronage of His Majesty the King, was introduced to grow tourism through golf and has since developed into one of the country’s flagship sporting and tourism events.
She said the newly appointed task team would be responsible for overseeing the planning and management of the tournament, mobilising financial support and coordinating dates and venues in consultation with key stakeholders. Members were urged to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and integrity.
Mkhonta Simelane expressed appreciation to the outgoing task team for its commitment and contribution, noting that its work ensured the smooth running and continued success of previous editions of the tournament.
She said the new task team was expected to begin work immediately, as several matters already required attention. The team’s term of office will not exceed three years, with the ministry acting as the secretariat. A legal gazette confirming the appointments will be issued in due course.
The minister reminded members that their appointment should not be regarded as second employment, adding that the Kings Golf Cup continued to play a meaningful role in the national economy by generating tourism revenue, creating temporary jobs, stimulating local spending and promoting Eswatini internationally.
She said the tournament attracts both local and international golfers and spectators, providing a boost to the hospitality industry while positioning the country as a competitive tourism destination.
The appointed task team is chaired by Samuel Richards, with members Mandla Dlamini, Vusi Dlamini, Angie Toepfer, Lucky Sihlongonyane, Sakhile Dlamini, Bongani Mdluli and Chunky Mdluli. Sethabile Dludlu will serve as secretary.
