Mbabane Highlanders AM FC kit manager Lindani Simelane has announced his decision to step away from football, choosing to focus fully on his academic studies after more than a decade with the club.
Simelane’s absence was evident at Mavuso Sports Centre on match day, where Highlanders suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Mbabane Swallows. His journey with Highlanders began as a young ball boy and steadily progressed until he became the youngest kit manager in Eswatini, a role that placed him at the centre of the club’s daily operations and match-day preparations.
Reflecting on his time at the club, Simelane expressed gratitude to those who shaped his career. “I want to thank everyone at Mbabane Highlanders, past owners, players, and management for believing in me. This club taught me lessons that go far beyond football, lessons I will carry with me for life,” he said.
He also paid tribute to club president Shaun ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize, expressing confidence that unity among supporters and stakeholders can help restore Highlanders to their former glory.
When asked about the circumstances surrounding his exit, Simelane declined to engage in controversy, opting for a measured approach. “You don’t burn bridges in life,” he said, noting that while an immediate return to Highlanders is unlikely, his respect and appreciation for the club remain intact.
