Despite COVID-19 Govt has been able to provide Malaria treatment services

Mbabane: At the height of the coronavirus outbreak, Eswatini government has been able to roll-out Malaria prevention and treatment services and other health interventions without hesitation.

This was revealed by the Prime Minister Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini on Thursday afternoon when launching the National End Malaria Program Strategic Plan and commissions End Malaria Fund Office. Dlamini also announced the launch of the “Zero Malaria Starts with Me” campaign. Dlamini hailed His Majesty King Mswati III’s leadership as the fund was initiated by The King as a dream for the whole of Africa not only Eswatini.

The Premier said the battle over Malaria is one big battle as 93 percent of Malaria cases are from Africa. However, the Kingdom Eswatini has gone an extra mile in the fight against Malaria as today the country officially launched the three-year strategic plan in the fight against Malaria. Dlamini said the Strategic Plan will guide Eswatini’s efforts towards the elimination of Malaria by 2023.

Dlamini added that the main objective of the plan rest in the protection of Emaswati through implementing appropriate vector control interventions, testing malaria suspects by quality-assured diagnostics and assuring prompt and effective treatment.

Minister of Health Lizzy Nkosi, on her remarks said in 2009 the country’s malaria efforts were focused on controlling the spread of malaria, in 2015 the focus was on pre-elimination and now it is on total elimination of Malaria in the Kingdom.

Chairman of the End Malaria Fund Thandile Nxumalo said everyone has a role to play in the fight against malaria and the country is almost there.
