Ezulwini – Eswatini TV chief executive officer Mlamuli Dlamini says the launch of BakaNgwane signals a strong commitment by the national broadcaster to promote locally produced content and strengthen the country’s growing film and television industry.
Dlamini was speaking on Thursday during a media preview of the historical drama held at Sharma House in Ezulwini, ahead of its scheduled premiere on Eswatini TV in January 2026. He addressed Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, leaders within the creative arts sector, the cast and crew, as well as members of the media who attended the launch.

He said Eswatini TV, as the national broadcaster, was mandated by the Broadcasting Act of 2023 to promote and broadcast local productions, adding that the station embraced this responsibility and valued its working relationship with independent producers. Dlamini said the broadcaster was looking forward to engaging even more local producers to further develop homegrown talent and storytelling.
The chief executive officer said BakaNgwane reflects the growth of the local film industry and positions both Eswatini and Eswatini TV as competitive players on the global stage, while delivering quality entertainment, information and education to viewers.
BakaNgwane is rooted in Eswatini’s history and portrays the trials faced by the Kingdom’s Kings as they sought to protect the land, culture and identity of the nation. The drama was conceived as an educational project intended to share the country’s historical roots and address misconceptions about Eswatini.
The media preview was attended by Cabinet Ministers Savannah Maziya and Bongani Nzima, Senator Pholile Shakantu, who is also the executive producer of the series, Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini and other invited guests. The event also served as a meet and greet with the cast and production team ahead of the television debut.
Senator Shakantu thanked Their Majesties for their support throughout the production journey, saying the backing played a significant role in bringing the project to life.
