Panama City, Panama – Namibia presented its efforts to combat land degradation and strengthen dryland ecosystem resilience at the 23rd session of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, held from December 1 to 5, 2025.

At a high-level side event titled “Scaling Integrated Approaches for Drylands and Rangeland Resilience,” Kosmas Shilongo, Project Coordinator for Namibia’s Dryland Sustainable Landscapes Impact Programme, detailed the country’s community-driven initiatives across the Kunene–Cuvelai, Etosha, and Okavango sub-basin landscapes.

The session drew approximately 500 delegates from 196 countries to assess progress toward global targets aimed at preventing and reversing land degradation, improving drought resilience by 2030, and developing a strategic framework for the post-2030 period.

Namibia’s presentation highlighted integrated approaches that combine environmental management with local community participation to build resilient ecosystems and promote sustainable land use in some of Southern Africa’s most vulnerable dryland regions.
