Mbabane – Eswatini has boosted its continental sporting presence with the departure of two national teams for major African competitions, as the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Bongani Nzima urged them to “make the country proud” during an official send-off.
The Men’s National Netball Team left today for Blantyre, Malawi, where they will compete in the Africa Netball Cup against some of the region’s strongest sides. At the same time, a youth delegation representing various sporting disciplines travelled to Angola to participate in the African National Olympic and Commonwealth Association (ANOCA) Youth Games.
The Africa Netball Cup presents a major test for the men’s team, as Malawi remains one of Africa’s highest-ranked netball nations. Their participation also highlights Eswatini’s ongoing efforts to elevate men’s netball and strengthen its competitiveness internationally.
Meanwhile, the ANOCA Youth Games will see young athletes showcase their talent and gain exposure among the continent’s rising stars. The multi-sport event is widely regarded as a pathway for grooming future Olympians.
Both teams expressed gratitude for the support received and vowed to fight for strong performances as they set out to represent Eswatini on two different fronts.
