Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as the Premier League leaders were unable to capitalise on a first-half red card for the hosts.
Chelsea went down to ten men in the 38th minute when Moises Caicedo was sent off for a reckless challenge on Mikel Merino. Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Blues took the lead early in the second half with Trevoh Chalobah nodding home from a Reece James corner in the 48th minute.
Arsenal responded in the 59th minute when Bukayo Saka’s precise cross set up Merino, who scored with a header to level the match. Despite sustained pressure, the Gunners could not find a winner as Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and his defenders held firm in the closing stages.
The draw leaves Arsenal five points clear of second-placed Manchester City and Chelsea six points behind the leaders, moving the Blues into third place above Aston Villa.

The match began with high intensity as three yellow cards were issued within the first 13 minutes. Chelsea appeared set for trouble after Caicedo’s foul, but the team adapted well to maintain a point against the league leaders.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta brought on Martin Odegaard and Noni Madueke to inject energy from the bench, but it was Saka who orchestrated the equaliser for Merino. Merino now has ten Premier League goals this season, seven of them headers, and has proved a reliable alternative in leading Arsenal’s attack.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca praised his side for their resilience despite being a man down, noting the team adapted well and showed progress in their performance. Maresca will now adjust his midfield options ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Leeds United.
Chelsea have already received four red cards in 13 league games this season, the earliest into a campaign that any Premier League team has reached this number of dismissals. Arsenal have now failed to win a league match where their opponents received a first-half red card for the first time since 2010.
Arsenal host Brentford next, while Chelsea travel to Leeds as both sides look to build momentum heading into December fixtures.
