Mbabane: The Kingdom of Eswatini has recently been named by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten best countries to visit in 2020.
Being number five in the world, the Independent News Travel Desk explores the most beautiful things and places that can thrill travelers as they visit the Kingdom of Eswatini.
This week as we explored Sibebe Resort, we spoke to Themba Thwala, who gave a detailed description of the now popular resort.
Thwala told the Travel Desk that Sibebe Resort is a Swazi owned holiday destination lying adjacent to one of Southern Africa’s most impressive geological features, the majestic Sibebe Rock.
The Sibebe rock is a 3 billion year old volcanic slab rising to a height of 1 488m and covers some 16 500ha and is the world’s largest granite dome. It is also part of the Drakensberg Escarpment, the ecosystem which hosts a wide variety of habitats and also supports a diversity of endemic and endangered flora and fauna, the endangered blue swallow being one of those.
The tranquil of the resort provides the perfect getaway from city life of polluted air and noise and provides travelers with the inner peace and a soul healing experience.
Accommodation
Sibebe resort provides spacious thatched Chalets. The rooms have an African touch and a five star feel. They are designed to keep travelers warm in winter and cool in summer. The accommodation is designed for singles, couples and families. Other rooms can take groups of up to six people.
Restaurant and Bar
The award winning Molly’s Restaurant is also at Sibebe Resort. The restaurant offers an a la Carte menu with tasty breakfasts, light meals, Umgcwembe and hearty dinners. An assortment of disserts is also available. The restaurant does prepare buffets, finger foods and kiddies platters for groups on request. It also provides a huge variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic cold and hot beverages. And is open daily even on holidays from 07:30 until 22:00
Conferencing
Sibebe Resort also provides conferencing facilities. The conference rooms can accommodate up to 200 delegates and are designed to meet all conference needs. It is the perfect venue for meetings, training, seminars and workshops. A private function/dining area can be made available to conference groups.
Wedding Venues
When it comes to weddings, Sibebe Resort has become the venue of choice for wedding ceremonies and reception parties. It offers beautiful outdoor and indoor venues and further provide mouthwatering meals prepared for wedding guests by top chefs.
Activities
There is a number of activities one can enjoy at Sibebe Resort. With the hot summer, one can visit Sibebe for swimming with a very cool environment for relaxation around the pool area, where one can chill with friends and family on sunny days and enjoy the cool breeze on top of Sibebe rock. The swimming pool is suitable for both children and adults. There is another nice huge pool, a first of its kind in Eswatini and this is heaven on earth.
At Sibebe one can also enjoy the Sibebe hiking which is one of the most sought after activity and Sibebe is known for. There are guided hiking trail takes about four hours and is for people who want to keep fit and who are able to walk in the variable terrain of Sibebe. The starting point of the trail is at Mbuluzi and is a steep rocky trail which has several features to look up to such as cave paintings.
Adventure Caving also thrills tourists at Sibebe. There are a series of caves found around the Resort however, 40 minutes from the resort are caves that have traces of human habitation such as rock barricades that were constructed to shield the inhabitants from the wind and wild animals. These caves are under very big rocks and there is an ecstatic thrill when entering into these caves.
There is also Mountain Bike Safari at Sibebe. Mountain bikes are for visitors to hire and maneuver around the rugged terrain.
Also families and organizations can come for team building exercises. It offer a wide variety of fun games, games that require team work, skill, individual effort, physical strength all tailor made to suit your group’s needs.
Children games are also available. This was put in place so that while the parents enjoy the nature outing, their peace of mind will be augmented by the fact that the children will be having their share of the Sibebe treat at the KIDS Corner which offers a variety of kiddie games and activities to keep your children entertained and busy while parents have a peaceful afternoon.
