Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice President Steve Horton has praised Nsingizini Hotspurs for their achievements, saying the club has earned the right to represent the country on the continental stage following another successful season.
Speaking during the club’s End of Season Awards ceremony, Horton congratulated the reigning MTN Premier League champions on qualifying for CAF competitions but cautioned them against becoming complacent because of their recent success.
“You have earned the right to represent Eswatini in Africa,” Horton told the gathering. “It is a significant milestone, but it should not make the club big-headed.”
The football administrator said Nsingizini’s rise had not come by chance, revealing that he has maintained regular discussions with club president Derrick Shiba regarding the team’s ambitions and development.
Horton said he and Shiba often engage in lengthy conversations, sometimes lasting for hours, once or twice every month.
According to Horton, many of these discussions have centred on the club’s aspirations to compete at the highest level and represent Eswatini in continental football.”We have spoken many times about the club representing the country in Africa,” he said. “We share ideas and offer each other advice on football matters.”
The EFA vice president noted that Nsingizini’s continued success had made the club one of the country’s most important football institutions. He further highlighted the club’s contribution to national team development, saying the senior national team, Sihlangu Semnikati, was in the process of building a strong squad for future assignments.
As a result, Horton described Nsingizini as the go-to club for players capable of strengthening the national team setup. “The national team is building a squad, and Nsingizini is the club we look to for players,” he said.
His remarks came after a season in which Hotspurs successfully defended the MTN Premier League title and won the inaugural Ingwenyama Cup, while also securing qualification for CAF competitions.
The achievements have cemented the club’s position among the country’s leading football teams and raised expectations ahead of another campaign on both the domestic and continental fronts.
