Hyderabad, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Skyroot Aerospace’s Infinity Campus in Hyderabad, Telangana, on 27 November 2025, unveiling the company’s first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, designed to launch satellites into orbit.
Addressing the event, PM Modi said India’s space sector is entering a new era, driven by private enterprises and the ingenuity of the country’s youth. He noted that more than 300 space startups, many founded by small teams of young engineers and scientists, are now contributing to satellite launches, propulsion systems, rocket stages, and advanced materials. “Whenever new opportunities open, our youth, particularly Gen-Z, step forward and place national interest above all else,” he said.
The Prime Minister traced India’s space journey from its modest beginnings, recalling how ISRO carried rocket components on bicycles to build reliable launch vehicles. He stated that the government’s recent reforms, including opening the sector to private companies and establishing IN-SPACe to provide technology and infrastructure to startups, have transformed India’s space ecosystem into an open, cooperative, and innovation-driven environment.
PM Modi also linked the growth of the space sector to India’s broader startup revolution, noting that young innovators are now advancing in sectors including FinTech, AgriTech, HealthTech, ClimateTech, EduTech, and DefenceTech. India’s startup ecosystem has grown to over 1.5 lakh registered companies, many achieving unicorn status, with ventures emerging from small towns and villages beyond major cities.
Skyroot’s Infinity Campus spans around 200,000 square feet and is equipped to design, develop, integrate, and test multiple launch vehicles, with the capacity to produce one orbital rocket per month. The company was founded by Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, both former ISRO scientists and IIT alumni. Skyroot made history in November 2022 by launching Vikram-S, the first sub-orbital rocket by an Indian private company.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy attended the ceremony alongside other dignitaries. The Prime Minister concluded by assuring continued government support for startups, engineers, scientists, and young entrepreneurs, urging them to drive India’s space ambitions forward.
