Mbabane – Prospective participants in the 2026 Resolution Run have been warned that athletes without a valid licence will not be eligible for prizes.
The warning came from Athletics Eswatini (AE) President Zakhele Dlamini during the launch of the annual event, which is set to take place at the scenic Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary. Dlamini emphasized the importance of proper sanctioning, confirming that the Resolution Run is officially recognized by AE in consultation with Big Game Parks (BGP) and governed under World Athletics regulations.
“This event marks our first gathering of the new year, perfectly timed after the festive season for shedding those excess kilos. I strongly encourage all members of the public to register,” Dlamini said.
He also stressed, “Athletes competing without a valid permanent or temporary licence will forfeit their prizes.”
Experts say this firm stance reflects AE’s commitment to upholding regulations and protecting licensed athletes. The 2026 edition has received a financial boost from Lactalis Eswatini, which has pledged E100 000 to the event.
Marketing Manager Lucky Phiri confirmed that E80 000 will go directly towards event operations, with the remainder supplied in the form of stock.
The Resolution Run, first launched in 2016, has become a popular fixture on Eswatini’s sporting calendar. After initially being hosted at Hlane Royal Nature Reserve, the event was moved to Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary due to safety considerations. Runners can choose from three categories; 5km (E150), 10km (E190), and 21km (E270).
Registration is already underway, with AE urging all participants to ensure they hold the appropriate licences to compete for prizes.
