MBABANE – The state collected over E30 000 in fines after about fourteen people appeared at the Mbabane Magistrate’s Court today for charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.

They appeared before the Presiding Magistrate, Fikile Nhlabatsi who issued fines ranging between E1000 to E5000, totaling at least E31 000 after guilty pleas from the weekend arrests.

Among the offenders was Boy Nicholas Mabuza, who was found with 2.00 mg/l alcohol content in his system. He explained that he had been asked by his friends to transport them to a certain destination where they shared their drinks with him.

In vernacular he said, “Bangani bami bangivise kancane,” (they let me have a taste), adding that he was apologetic for his actions and would not commit a similar offence again.
