Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jnr says Amakhosi are expecting a demanding start to their Caf Confederation Cup group stage campaign as they prepare to face two Egyptian opponents in back to back fixtures.
Chiefs travelled to Suez, Egypt, for their Group D opener against Al Masry on Sunday, before returning home to host Cairo giants Zamalek at the Peter Mokaba Stadium the following weekend. Motaung Jnr said both matches carry huge importance and will test the team’s readiness early in the competition.
He noted that every team in the group is playing to win, adding that Chiefs are also confident in the threat they pose and will push for maximum points. Motaung Jnr said they are expecting a tough test in Egypt, a country known for its passionate football environment, and emphasised that the club had prepared thoroughly once the draw was confirmed.
With the FIFA international break offering time to sharpen their approach, Chiefs believe they are in a good position to give their supporters a strong performance. Motaung Jnr highlighted the work of the technical staff, who have intensified training and conducted detailed analysis of the opposition, helping create a positive mood within the squad.
Chiefs will be without suspended winger Gaston Sirino, who has accumulated three yellow cards. However, Amakhosi head into the clash in impressive form after beating Simba 3,1 to reach the group stages, while league victories over Durban City and Orbit College kept them firmly in the race at the top of the Betway Premiership table.
