Mbabane – Truck driver Mzwandile Mabuza has had his driver’s licence permanently cancelled by the Mbabane Magistrates Court after being charged with reckless and drunken driving. The ruling comes after Mabuza caused an accident at Nkoyoyo while intoxicated, colliding with a trailer and scratching a Toyota Prado, according to court prosecutors.
Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi described Mabuza as a high-risk factor to society and ordered the immediate surrender of his licence, directing the clerk of court to formally endorse the cancellation.
Mabuza was fined a total of E5,800. He received E5,000 for driving under the influence, which carries an alternative of two years’ imprisonment, and two separate fines of E800 for failing to keep a proper lookout and negligent driving, each carrying an alternative six-month jail term.
Magistrate Nhlabatsi further instructed that both the trailer and the Prado be taken for repairs. The case has been postponed to November 26 to allow the complainants time to submit at least three quotations for the court to determine appropriate compensation.
