Mbabane – Women in sport took centre stage at the Gender Equality & Safe Sport Forum hosted by the Eswatini Olympic & Commonwealth Games Association at Sibayeni Lodge, with Mrs. Dorothy Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe, CEO of the Botswana National Olympic Committee, delivering a keynote address.
Mrs. Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe’s presentation addressed gender equality and athlete protection and opened discussions for a potential memorandum of understanding between BNOC and EOCGA, aiming to strengthen regional collaboration in sport development.
The forum drew strong participation from National Federations, creating a platform for learning, networking, and building partnerships to develop safer and more inclusive sporting environments. EOCGA welcomed benchmarking visitors from Botswana and Mrs. Malebo Raditladi-Nkgakile from the AUSC Safe Sport & Safeguarding for All Initiative, reinforcing the association’s focus on empowering athletes and officials.

Opening the forum, EOCGA President Mr. Adam Mthethwa said the event is a key milestone for protecting athletes and ensuring equal opportunities across all levels of sport in Eswatini.
Following the forum, Mrs. Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe and Ms. Baboni Kupe, Senior Manager at BNOC, visited EOCGA offices in Lobamba for a strategic benchmarking engagement. Discussions focused on operational excellence, governance practices, and BNOC’s vision of developing its own NOC headquarters. The visit allowed BNOC to observe EOCGA’s administrative systems and structures that support the functioning of a National Olympic Committee.
EOCGA described the engagement as a demonstration of the value of NOC-to-NOC learning and cooperation, noting that sharing experiences strengthens the Olympic Movement across Africa. The association extended appreciation to BNOC for the collaboration and expressed commitment to expanding partnerships for the benefit of athletes, coaches, and sport stakeholders across the continent.
