Mbabane – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has called for stronger support and empowerment of the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) through practical, modern, and people-centred laws that enhance service delivery and promote public safety.
Speaking at the official opening of the Police Service Regulations 2025 Workshop for the Prime Minister’s Office Parliament Portfolio Committee and alternate members yesterday, the Prime Minister said it was important that the country’s legal framework enables rather than restricts the work of law enforcement officers.
“Let us support the Royal Eswatini Police Service by making sure that these regulations make it easier to work,” he said. Dlamini emphasised that discipline and professionalism within the Police Service were key to strengthening public trust and maintaining peace and order in the country.
The Prime Minister noted that upon assuming office, he found several outdated laws that hindered efficient governance and effective service delivery. He urged legislators to focus on reviewing such legislation to ensure it meets the current needs and realities of emaSwati.
“We need more deregulation. We need more enabling legislation, not disabling,” he said, adding that laws must be aligned with national development goals and the aspirations of the people.
Dlamini reiterated that combating crime and promoting national stability remain top priorities for the Government. He said strengthening institutions like the Police Service was essential in achieving lasting peace and safety in communities across the country.
He further reaffirmed Government’s commitment to His Majesty King Mswati III’s call from the Throne earlier this year for the establishment of stronger, more efficient systems that safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
