MPOLONJENI – Local football in the Lubombo region will benefit from a E150 000 sponsorship announced by Mpolonjeni Member of Parliament (MP) Kwanele Ndzimandze on Friday.
The three-year funding aims to support grassroots teams, reduce travel costs, and nurture local talent.
Speaking during the launch at Kalanga Technical Centre, Ndzimandze said he was pleased to extend his support to the Eastern Zone, which is structured into two streams to make fixtures more accessible.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank the new LRFA committee for allowing me the opportunity to sponsor the league. I have been involved in football for some time, previously sponsoring the Mpolonjeni League through the Lilanga Lami Foundation,” he said.
He added that the new structure would help teams save on transport costs, as long journeys for fixtures had been a challenge for many clubs in the region. During the event, the LRFA executive presented Ndzimandze with a Sihlangu replica T-shirt in appreciation of his contribution.
Ndzimandze also thanked his fellow MPs who attended the event, describing their presence as a sign of unity and collective support for local sports development.
“It was a beautiful event, and I thank my colleagues for their support. It shows that we are united,” he added.
LRFA Chairman Lucky Dlamini hailed the sponsorship as timely and essential.
“We are very grateful for this sponsorship which will cover a period of three years. The Eastern Zone has been without a sponsor for quite some time. With this financial boost, we are confident that football in the region will continue to grow,” he said.
Dlamini also appealed to other potential sponsors to come forward and support zonal leagues across the region, emphasizing that community engagement was key to sustaining local football.
In related developments, the Eswatini Football Association’s Technical Director’s office has commenced coaching courses in the region, offering both basic and intermediate programmes. The sessions are conducted online during the week and held physically over weekends, providing opportunities for players and coaches to improve their skills.
With financial backing and increased training opportunities, the Eastern Zone is poised to strengthen grassroots football and foster new talent for the future of Eswatini football.
