LOBAMBA – Young volleyball players across Eswatini are set to benefit from improved coaching and mentorship following the successful Chakaza Volleyball Project Coaching Clinic held last week at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) offices in Lobamba.
The initiative, organized by the Eswatini National Volleyball Association (ENVA), brought together a motivated group of local coaches seeking to enhance their skills, ensuring that athletes at the grassroots level receive better guidance and support. By strengthening coaching quality, the clinic aims to nurture talent from an early age, giving children and teenagers more opportunities to excel in the sport.
ENVA President Eric ‘Mseni’ Gama described the programme as a milestone for volleyball development in Eswatini, highlighting its broader impact on communities.
“Well-trained coaches are the backbone of any successful sports programme. By equipping them with the right knowledge and techniques, we are investing in the growth and future success of our young athletes,” he said.
The clinic combined theoretical lessons with hands-on practical sessions, covering topics such as modern coaching strategies, athlete management, training methodology, and game analysis. Participants left the programme better prepared to mentor athletes, manage teams effectively, and foster a positive learning environment for youth in their communities.
Dr Thulani Maphosa, facilitator and Project Director of the Chakaza Volleyball Project, played a key role in leading the sessions, sharing his expertise and guidance to ensure coaches gained valuable insights. Gama extended appreciation to Dr Maphosa, the coaches, and all partners, emphasizing that such collaborations are critical for building sustainable sports development in the country.
The Chakaza Volleyball Project continues to serve as a cornerstone for local volleyball, promoting not only technical skill development but also youth engagement and community participation. By empowering coaches, the programme aims to create a generation of athletes who are confident, skilled, and motivated to succeed both on and off the court.
