DAR ES SALAAM – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has begun a four-day refresher training for election observers ahead of Tanzania’s general elections set for 29 October 2025.
The training, which runs from 16 to 19 October at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dar es Salaam, is organised by the SADC Secretariat in partnership with the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa (EISA).
Observers attending the session have been drawn from ten member states, including Eswatini, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The programme is designed to ensure observers are fully prepared and equipped with up-to-date tools and methodologies to effectively carry out their duties during the polls.
Malawi’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Andrew Zumbe Kumwenda, told participants that the mission seeks to assess the conduct of the elections and strengthen democratic governance in the region through impartial and professional observation.
According to SADC, the Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM) will officially launch on 21 October, conduct field observations on election day, and release a preliminary statement on 31 October.
