Mbabane – Red Rhinos have made an emphatic statement in the opening round of the MulaSport National First Division (NFD), securing a dominant win and topping the scoring charts with three goals.

The action-packed weekend saw a total of 14 goals scored across seven tightly contested fixtures, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive season.

Red Rhinos, marking their return to the league, were the undisputed standout performers, displaying commanding 3-1 win over newcomers Pigg’s Peaks Professionals, according to match reports.

Their performance was characterised by sharp attacking play and clinical finishing, immediately staking their claim as early title contenders. A spokesperson for the club reportedly stated that the team’s objective was to maintain this momentum, adding, “We showed a lot of hunger and clinical finishing. We believe we have what it takes to challenge for the title this season.”

The 3-1 result against Pigg’s Peak Professionals not only marked the highest-scoring game of the round but also positioned Red Rhinos as the leading goalscorers. Pigg’s Peak Professionals were one of two teams, alongside Nsingizwe Sundowns, to bag a solitary goal in a losing effort.

Other high-scoring encounters included the tense battle between Ludzeludze Killers and CK Survivors, with the latter eventually prevailing 2-1. CK Survivors reportedly made a positive start, overcoming the Killers in a tense encounter. The article notes that Survivors dominated the first half but had to dig deep to hold off a late surge from Killers.

In other matches, Madlenya began their campaign with a 1-0 win over Magwanyana, while Sidwashini United, following an off-season revamp, secured a well-earned 1-0 victory over Msumpe Manchester. Manzini Sundowns endured a disappointing start, suffering a narrow 0-1 defeat to Masundvwini Royal Swallows, who took full advantage of a rare defensive lapse to secure victory.

Meanwhile, the weekend’s only scoreless affair was a heated derby between Mankayane United and Viva Stumbo, with neither side able to find the breakthrough. Despite the single goalless draw, the opening round proved to be a scoring success. With 14 goals netted in total, the stage is now set for teams to battle to find their rhythm and assert early dominance.

The immediate focus now shifts to the upcoming fixtures, as Red Rhinos aim to consolidate their lead and the chasing pack attempts to find their scoring boots.
