Mbabane – Local football clubs have been handed a crucial lifeline as the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) announced the decision to extend the first transfer window deadline to October 10, 2025, giving teams time to finalise their player registrations.
The decision was confirmed by EFA Chief Executive Officer, Frederick Mngomezulu, on Sunday at the Manzini Regional Football Association (MRFA) annual general meeting held at Salesian High School Hall.
Mngomezulu explained that the initial deadline, which opened on July 23, had closed last Friday.
However, the EFA decided to extend it to provide clubs with more time to register their players.
“You are all aware that registration closed on Friday, but we have decided to extend it for two more weeks to allow clubs more time to register their players,” Mngomezulu said.
“The main reason is that most associations held their AGMs very late. As a result, a number of clubs including some in the Premier League have not yet completed their registrations,” he explained.
The extension follows a request submitted by the EFA to FIFA seeking its approval. The CEO urged teams to make good use of the extra time, reminding them that this registration opportunity would only come again in January 2026. He also highlighted that the extension equally applies to the registration of foreign players.
Meanwhile, the EFA announced that the second registration window will open on January 8, 2026, and will close on February 2, 2026. The association was categorical that no registrations will be permitted after February 27, 2026, unless under exceptional circumstances outlined in an official EFA circular.
