Mbabane: The total number of confirmed cases in Eswatini has drastically increased to 371 as 31 new cases confirmed on Tuesday.

This is the highest number recorded in the Kingdom since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in Eswatini.

Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi has announced that the ministry received a total of 189 results of which 158 tested negative while 31 came out positive. 30 of the new cases are from Manzini region and only one from Lubombo.

The new cases comprises of a majority of young people aged between the ages of 2-40 years and most of them are asymptomatic or mild symptoms and only one who presented severe-critical disease.

Notably, case number 368, who is a 17 year old male from Manzini region presented severe-critical disease. Minister Nkosi told Independent News that this is really shocking and it has not yet been found what really transpired in regard to this case but she suspect that it’s either the case might have underlying diseases or maybe the case didn’t not seek medical attention early and that might have led to the virus to manifest in his body hence he became critically ill.

Nkosi told this publication that this new record suggest that the public have misunderstood the easing of the partial lockdown and they relaxed taking care of themselves. “We are easing partial lockdown and apparently people have misunderstood it and let their guards down hence this highest numbers” Nkosi said.

Minister Nkosi has once again urged the public to continue adhering to all health measures given by the ministry of health and World Health Organization which includes washing of hands with running water and soap, avoid unnecessary movements, practice social-distancing. Nkosi emphasized on the social distancing clause saying this numbers comprises of the youth which is more into parties and that is very risky. “This will pass, people should just wait in hosting parties and once this is over we will go back to hosting parties but for now let’s stay put” Nkosi said.

Minister Nkosi went on to encourage parents to be very much vigilant and protect their children from the virus as the number of children who contract the virus indicates to be on the rise as well.

However, there are also 3 new recoveries discharged on this date and the total number of recoveries has increased to 232 and this makes up 79 % of the total infections in the country.
