Manzini – Eswatini business leaders will engage African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretary General Wamkele Mene in a fireside chat on Friday during the ongoing Eswatini International Trade Fair.
The discussion aims to explore ways for local businesses to expand into continental markets and strengthen Eswatini’s role in regional trade. Mene, who also attended last year’s trade fair, has consistently said AfCFTA offers significant opportunities for the private sector, enabling companies to move beyond the Southern African Customs Union.
At the 2024 trade fair, Mene noted that AfCFTA connects 1.4 billion people with a combined GDP of US$3.4 trillion, urging Eswatini to fully leverage the agreement.
The opening of this year’s fair was attended by His Majesty King Mswati III and King Misuzulu, where Mene reiterated the importance of using AfCFTA to unlock economic potential for the country.
