Mbabane – The Ministry of Tourism and Environmental Affairs has launched two initiatives aimed at strengthening Eswatini’s environmental management and promoting inclusive development.
Minister Jane Mkhonta-Simelane unveiled the Umbrella Programme, which will revise the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and prepare the country’s 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity. The programme seeks to conserve biodiversity, restore ecosystems, and ensure alignment with international environmental commitments.
The Minister also introduced the Project on Accelerating Systematic Change in Gender Equality and Biodiversity Conservation. This project empowers women, youth, and marginalized groups to take leadership roles in conservation, integrating gender equality into environmental planning and decision-making.
Speaking at the launch, Minister Mkhonta-Simelane called on partners to engage local communities and strengthen institutional frameworks to turn the initiatives into tangible outcomes.
