EZULWINI – A new industrial park set to accommodate Taiwanese investors will soon be developed in Phocweni, covering 158 hectares of land.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade Manqoba Khumalo during the Taiwan-Eswatini Investment Workshop held in Ezulwini.
Khumalo told investors and delegates that the park would be developed by the Government of Taiwan to cater for growing interest by companies from the island nation looking to operate in Eswatini.
He said the initiative aligns with Eswatini’s soon-to-be-finalised investment and trade policy review, which is expected to improve the business climate by ensuring transparency and predictability for foreign and local investors.
“We see Taiwan as a key economic partner and a crucial part of the global supply chain. Their companies have made a mark globally, and we want them to set up operations in Eswatini,” said Khumalo.
He added that Eswatini’s relationship with Taiwan is underpinned by shared principles of innovation, entrepreneurship and a rules-based trade system guided by the 2018 Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries.
Khumalo said local businesses are increasingly looking to Taiwan for partnerships, especially in digital technology, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing, with future potential in areas like artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and green tech.
He encouraged Taiwanese investors to deepen their presence in Eswatini’s economy, calling their involvement “crucial” to shaping a shared economic future.
Taiwan’s Ambassador to Eswatini, H.E Jeremy Liang, said Taiwanese companies are already active in the Kingdom, with 21 firms established across sectors such as textiles, plastics and cartoon manufacturing.
He revealed that these investments have collectively exceeded USD 100 million and created around 13,000 jobs for emaSwati.
