NGUDZENI – Ngudzeni Member of Parliament Charles Ndlovu has appealed to Maloma Colliery Limited to create jobs for men in his constituency, many of whom were recently retrenched by the company.
Speaking during the handover of a newly built house to 90-year-old Sigwaca Magutjwa, MP Ndlovu said unemployment had become a pressing challenge in the area. He explained that a number of men had lost their only source of income after being laid off at Maloma, leaving their families struggling to survive.
“The men who lost their jobs are crying out for help. The situation is dire because of the high number of people affected,” Ndlovu said, urging the company’s board to reconsider employment opportunities for the retrenched workers.
While expressing gratitude to Maloma Colliery for supporting the housing initiative and other community projects, Ndlovu stressed that sustainable livelihoods through job creation remained the most urgent need for his constituency.
Maloma Colliery board member Myzoe Magagula acknowledged the MP’s concerns and reiterated the company’s commitment to improving lives in Ngudzeni through community development programmes. However, MP Ndlovu emphasized that while housing and social projects were commendable, jobs were the key to restoring dignity and stability to the families of retrenched men.
