ELANGENI – A 19-year-old Rangers FC development player, Siphelele Dlamini, died yesterday after being struck by a minibus while crossing the Matsapha-Mbabane highway near Elangeni.
Dlamini, who was also a student at Elangeni High School and a rising talent in the Under-19 squad, had just left school when the incident occurred.
Police said the accident involved a Toyota Quantum. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, confirmed that the driver stopped and the vehicle is currently under police investigation.
Dlamini was rushed to Mbabane Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Rangers FC General Manager Thokozani Ndzinisa said the young midfielder’s death was a major loss to the club, describing him as a dedicated player with great potential.
Elangeni High School broke the news to the community, sparking an outpouring of grief from classmates, teachers and the local football fraternity.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be confirmed. Rangers FC has urged supporters and stakeholders to assist the Dlamini family during this difficult time.
