Mbabane – A 32-year-old liSwati national has been arrested in South Africa after police seized 61.95kg of dagga estimated to have a street value of E100 000.
The suspect was arrested at about 8:30pm on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by members of the Botshabelo Crime Prevention Unit in Section G, Botshabelo, a township near Bloemfontein.
According to the South African Police Service, the operation was launched after police received intelligence that led them to the residence of a foreign national from Eswatini.
During the operation, police seized 61.95kg of dagga, which they estimated to have a street value of E100 000.
The suspect is facing charges of possession and dealing in dagga, as well as contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.
Police have not disclosed the identity of the suspect.
The arrest forms part of an intelligence-driven operation by the Botshabelo Crime Prevention Unit aimed at tackling drug-related offences in the area.
The seizure represents a significant quantity of dagga, with the suspect now set to face the South African justice system over the allegations.
Police said investigations into the matter are continuing as they work to establish further details surrounding the seized dagga and the alleged dealing offence.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Botshabelo Magistrate’s Court soon, where the charges against him will be formally dealt with.
The arrest comes as police in South Africa continue to conduct operations targeting the possession and distribution of illicit drugs.
The suspect remains an accused person at this stage and will have an opportunity to respond to the charges when the matter comes before court.
