MBABANE – Eswatini’s national athletics teams were officially sent off on Wednesday during a brief ceremony held at the Eswatini Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (EOCGA) offices in Mbabane, ahead of two major continental competitions.
One team, led by Coach Hamilton Mhlanga, departed Wednesday afternoon from King Mswati III International Airport en route to the African Games Zonal Qualifiers in Algeria. Another group, under the guidance of veteran sprinter and now coach Sibusiso Matsenjwa, will leave Thursday morning for the CAA Southern Regional Senior Championships in Harare, Zimbabwe.
The farewell event was attended by key figures from the local sporting fraternity, including EOCGA President Adam Mthethwa, ESRC CEO Darius Dlomo, EOCGA CEO Maxwell Jele, board member Mavikane Dlamini, and Athletics Eswatini representative Nqobile Dlamini-Zwane.
Speaking on behalf of Athletics Eswatini President, Dlamini-Zwane commended the athletes for earning their places through outstanding performances at the 2025 National Championships. She described them as “athletics warriors” carrying the hopes of the nation and urged them to aim for medals and World Championship qualifications.
Dlamini-Zwane also thanked the coaches, officials, and supporting bodies including the Ministry of Sports, ENRSC, and EOCGA for their role in facilitating the teams’ participation.
