PRETORIA – The Minister-Counsellor at the Embassy of Japan in South Africa, Mr Yasushi Naito, paid a courtesy visit to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) South Africa Office on Tuesday, 16 July 2025.
He was received by JICA’s Chief Representative, Mr Kaoru Okada, and Senior Representative, Mr Taigo Sasaki. The meeting centred on collaborative efforts between Japan and South Africa in the local development sector.
Discussions also touched on South Africa’s participation in the upcoming Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), set for 20–22 August 2025 in Yokohama, Japan. Government representatives from South Africa and affiliated institutions are expected to attend various thematic sessions at the event.
JICA is preparing to host side events at TICAD 9 to showcase its ongoing technical cooperation projects in South Africa and other African countries.
Both the Embassy of Japan and JICA operate from Pretoria and jointly administer Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) to the region.
