EZULWINI– Voluntary tax compliance remains the backbone of Eswatini’s development, according to the Eswatini Revenue Service (ERS) Governing Board Chairperson David Dlamini.
Speaking on Friday evening during the ERS Client Appreciation Day held at the Happy Valley Hotel in Ezulwini, Dlamini said collective efforts from government, businesses, and citizens drove the agency’s achievements.
The event, which drew government officials, CEOs of public enterprises, business leaders, and media representatives, marked the third consecutive year of the ERS recognising taxpayers who consistently meet their obligations.
Dlamini acknowledged the ERS management and staff for surpassing last year’s revenue targets despite difficult global and domestic economic conditions. “This impressive performance is not solely an ERS achievement. It reflects the commitment of everyone in this room and thousands of taxpayers who continue to file on time, declare truthfully, and pay promptly,” he said.
He explained that the government’s public services, infrastructure development, and social programmes were all made possible by taxpayers’ compliance.
The ERS boss also reflected on the agency’s digital transformation journey, saying the theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Celebrating compliance with our partners powered by digital transformation’, was intentionally chosen.
He pointed to the rollout of the ERS TaxPal mobile application, which offers a secure 24-hour filing and payment platform, and new customs modules that allow pre-arrival clearance and reduced processing times for businesses.
“Digital solutions are not just for convenience. They are targeted investments making compliance easier and more transparent for every business, regardless of size or sector,” Dlamini said.
The ERS chairperson expressed gratitude to the Minister of Finance for continued policy backing and budgetary support, saying it allows the tax agency to pursue innovations that make a real difference.
He also credited the private sector and professional bodies for keeping ERS accountable and responsive to business needs.
Dlamini rounded off his address by urging businesses and individuals to maintain exemplary compliance, which he said creates a competitive advantage and builds a stronger economy for Eswatini.
