WINDHOEK – Eswatini’s performance at the ongoing Region 5 Youth Games in Namibia has taken a heavy knock, with both the men’s and women’s football teams crashing out after 3-0 defeats to Zambia and South Africa, respectively.
The netball side has also suffered back-to-back losses, first overwhelmed by South Africa with a punishing 92-14 scoreline before going down 73-21 against Malawi yesterday. The defeats have laid bare the gap in experience between Eswatini’s players and the region’s stronger teams.
Despite the setbacks across team sports, swimmer Hayley Hoye managed to secure a bronze medal for Eswatini in the 200m freestyle, bringing a rare moment of celebration for the national delegation.
