Mbabane – A brand-new CT scanner has been installed at Mbabane Government Hospital, bringing relief to patients and staff who had been grappling with repeated breakdowns of the old machine.
The E12.8 million Siemens Somatom go.All scanner was officially handed over on Thursday morning. It comes with built-in artificial intelligence, a patient monitoring camera, and round-the-clock remote support from Siemens engineers in Germany.
The scanner, procured through Microprojects under the Ministry of Health’s Nkwene mandate, replaces the country’s only public CT unit, which had become increasingly unreliable.

Radiologists at the hospital have already undergone training on the system and are now using it for patient care. AVOMA Group, the company that sourced and installed the scanner, will provide technical support, while any detected faults will be flagged remotely by Siemens for quick local intervention.
To ensure safety, the CT suite has been upgraded with radiation shielding. Independent tests confirmed that radiation levels remain within the standards set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The scanner is expected to serve the public for at least 15 years.
