Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – Police leaders from across Southern Africa will gather in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from 2 to 6 June 2025, for the annual Southern African Development Community (SADC) Chiefs of Police Sub-Committee/SARPCCO General Meeting, where regional crime and security issues will take centre stage.

The gathering will focus on developing joint strategies to tackle transnational organised crime, which has increasingly affected countries in the region, including Eswatini. Drug and firearms trafficking, vehicle theft, human trafficking, smuggling, cybercrime, stock theft, and money laundering are among the crimes that continue to strain national law enforcement agencies.

According to the SADC Secretariat, the meeting aligns with the broader goals of the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (2020–2030), which seeks to promote regional peace and security through coordinated crime prevention and response frameworks.

The meeting will be chaired by Tanzania’s Inspector General of Police, Camillus Wambura, who is concluding his one-year term as SARPCCO Chairperson. He is expected to hand over the reins to Malawi’s Police Chief, Merlyne Yolamu.

Law enforcement representatives from INTERPOL’s National Central Bureaus and SARPCCO Technical Organs will also convene ahead of the main meeting. These include Directors of Criminal Investigations, legal advisors, women’s networks, and training officers. Their input will help shape recommendations for stronger coordination and operational effectiveness among SADC countries.
