4 new confirmed COVID-19 cases, number stands at 36

Mbabane: Eswatini has recorded 4 more COVID-19 positive cases, which has seen the number of cases growing up to 36.

This was announced by the Minister of Health Lizzie Nkosi on Thursday afternoon in a press statement.

The Minister of Health announced that the COVID-19 cases has grown up to 36. Announcing results, the Minister of Health through the statement stated that the Ministry received 133 results of which 129 were negative and 4 come out positive, bringing the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 36.

“The 33rd case is a 28 year old female residing in the Shiselweni Region, who presented with mild illness and has no history of travel or contact with a confirmed case, while the 34th case is a 43 year old male residing in the Manzini Region, who presented with mild flu like symptoms and has no history of travel but is a contact to case number 22. The 35th case is a 33 year old female residing in the Manzini Region, who presented with no symptoms but has a contact of case number 22 while the 36th case is a 37 year old male residing in the Manzini Region, who presented with flu symptoms and has a contact with case number 24 and 29” said the minister.

According to the statement, contact tracing for the confirmed cases has begun. The statement further reveals that Eswatini has now 36 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 10 cases have been treated, 21 are still undergoing treatment and only one has died.

Nkosi said contact tracing has already stated for the confirmed case. She urged the public to adhere to the covid-19 regulations and take precautions as advised by the ministry and world health organization.

The Ministry continues to urge the public to wash their hands frequently with soap and running water or use hand sanitizer and to observe hand hygiene always, avoiding touching their faces, and avoiding close contact with (staying at least one meter away from) other people.

When coughing or sneezing people are urged to cover their mouth or preferably use a face mask. The public is also urged to cooperate with rapid response teams as they go about their duties of finding contacts of positive cases. Coronavirus is spreading at a very high rate, globally according to statistics from the coronavirus global data as of April 23, 2020, 5:00pm there were 2,671,952 confirmed cases worldwide with 186,468 deaths and 731,676 recoveries since the outbreak over the past four months.
