The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has issued a final call to trade unions, staff associations, and federations that have failed to submit their annual audited financial statements and other statutory returns, as required by law.
According to the Industrial Relations Act No. 1 of 2000, all registered labour organizations must provide updates on their postal addresses, leadership, membership numbers, constitutional amendments, and audited financial statements for the previous year. However, despite repeated reminders, several organizations have not complied.
The Ministry has raised concerns over what it sees as a persistent disregard for legal obligations, noting that some organizations have not even responded to official correspondences. This non-compliance, the Ministry warns, could affect an organization’s standing and recognition within key labour structures.
Organizations that remain in default have been given 30 working days to justify their failure to comply. If they fail to do so, the Commissioner of Labour may take action without further notice, as permitted by the Act.
