MATSAPHA – His Majesty’s Correctional Services (HMCS) marked its 18th anniversary celebrations with generous gifts to both the Royal Family and charity, presenting Their Majesties with five cattle and handing over a cheque worth E70 000 to the Philani Maswati Charity Foundation.
The gifts formed part of a colourful celebration held at the Correctional Services Staff College in Matsapha, where correctional officers showcased their achievements in rehabilitation, agriculture and community service.Announcing the royal gifts, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Prince Simelane said HMCS had presented three cattle to His Majesty King Mswati III and two cattle to Her Majesty the Indlovukazi. The cattle were accompanied by two vans loaded with fresh vegetables produced through the institution’s agricultural projects.
In another highlight of the day, HMCS donated E70 000 to the Philani Maswati Charity Foundation.
The celebrations were attended by senior government officials, members of the security cluster and visiting correctional services heads from across the SADC region.Addressing the gathering, speakers commended correctional officers for their dedication to public safety, offender rehabilitation and national development.
They highlighted the institution’s efforts in skills development, agricultural production and partnerships aimed at reducing recidivism and helping offenders successfully reintegrate into society.
His Majesty King Mswati III praised correctional officers for their discipline, patriotism and professionalism, noting that their work played a critical role in shaping society and promoting safer communities.
The event was further enlivened by impressive guard of honour displays, precision drills and marches by correctional officers, drawing applause from the audience.
The presentation of the cattle, vegetables and E70 000 cheque capped a day that celebrated not only the achievements of HMCS over the past 18 years but also its commitment to service beyond prison walls.
