Mbabane: As of Sunday, the total number of confirmed cases in Eswatini stood at 5 269, with 24 new cases confirmed.
According to the daily reports by the ministry of health, Eswatini’s recoveries has improved to 4 624, which translated to a recovery rate of 87.7 percent. The continuous increase in the number of recoveries has pushed the number of active cases down to 517.
The daily reports suggested that the Hhohho region has hit the 2 000 cases mark. However, Manzini region remains the worst hit region with 2 384 cases. Shiselweni and Lubombo regions have recorded 456 and 429 cases respectively.
The decline in COVID-19 cases in Eswatini has been noticed by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the health organization listed Eswatini among African countries whose cases have continued to decline in the past weeks.
Twenty-five countries recorded a decrease in new cases, with 17 of them registering a decrease of more than 20%; Congo (84%), Zimbabwe (77%), Guinea-Bissau (69%), Burundi (67%), Côte d’Ivoire (52%), Mali (45%), Democratic Republic of the Congo (42%), Gabon (39%), Rwanda (38%), Ethiopia (37%), Gambia (33%), Guinea (29%), Equatorial Guinea (25%), Madagascar (23), Eswatini (22%), Namibia (21%) and Benin (21%).
According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as of September 20, the African region has recorded 1 400 609 cases and five countries reporting most cases are South Africa (659 656), Egypt (101 900), Morocco (99 816), Ethiopia (68 131) and Nigeria (57 145).
The total number of fatalities in the country stands at 104 as the latest death was recorded on September 19.
