Manzini- What was once a quiet stretch in Sicelweni is now emerging as a growing economic node following the launch of a multi-service retail complex by Linac Group at Kakhoza.
The development, anchored by a Rite Value grocer, is reshaping the local business landscape by introducing a one-stop retail hub that combines essential services under one roof. Beyond improving access to goods, the project has injected new life into the area’s economy, creating over 50 jobs for local residents.
Unlike traditional standalone retail outlets, the Kakhoza complex brings together a grocery store, butchery, pharmacy, electronics shop, salon, and shisanyama, positioning itself as a convenient and accessible commercial centre for surrounding communities. The model reflects a growing shift towards integrated retail developments in underserved areas, where consumers benefit from both proximity and variety.
Speaking at the official opening, Linac Group Director Lincoln Motsa highlighted that the investment goes beyond retail expansion, pointing to its broader economic impact.
“This development is about more than just business growth. It is about creating opportunities and ensuring that communities such as Kakhoza are not left behind in terms of access to quality services,” he said.
The Rite Value outlet represents the group’s third-tier retail format, designed to serve smaller or developing markets while maintaining the same quality standards associated with its larger OK Foods and OK Grocer stores. This tiered approach allows the company to scale its footprint without diluting customer experience.
Motsa noted that the company’s expansion strategy is increasingly focused on bringing services closer to people, particularly in areas that have historically had limited access to formal retail infrastructure.
“We want to make sure that whether you are in an urban centre or a rural community, you receive the same level of quality and affordability,” he said.
The inclusion of independently operated businesses within the complex, such as the pharmacy and salon, also creates opportunities for local entrepreneurs, further strengthening the area’s economic ecosystem.
As consumer demand grows outside major urban centres, developments like the Kakhoza retail hub signal a shift in how businesses are approaching expansion, prioritising inclusivity, accessibility, and community impact alongside profitability.
