Mbabane- Eswatini is ramping up efforts to build expertise in emerging technologies, with four professionals set to travel to the India for specialized training in space science under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Programme (ITEC).
Announcing the development, Minister of Information, Communications and Technology Savannah Maziya said the initiative forms part of government’s broader strategy to strengthen human capital and accelerate digital transformation.
The selected participants, Professor Simiso Mkhonta, Dr. Sifiso Nkambule, Phesheya Sukati and Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, are drawn from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) and the Royal Science and Technology Park (RSTP). They are expected to depart on April 25 for the programmer titled “Space Technologies for the Benefit of Mankind: Indo-African Perspective.”
Maziya said the training will equip participants with practical skills in applying space-based technologies to development challenges, adding that the knowledge gained will contribute to improving service delivery and fostering innovation across sectors.
“This opportunity reflects the strong and growing bilateral relations between Eswatini and India, while supporting our national agenda to build a knowledge-based economy,” she said.
The Minister linked the programme to the government’s “Government in Your Hand” initiative, which seeks to modernize public services through digital solutions, innovation and capacity building.
Participants from the Royal Science and Technology Park are expected to bring extensive technical experience into the programme. Sukati has over a decade of experience as an Innovation and Technology Specialist, while Dlamini serves as a Security Operations Centre Analyst with a strong background in securing enterprise and national ICT infrastructure.
Also addressing the media, the Indian High Commissioner described ITEC as a cornerstone of South-South cooperation, noting that it enables countries like Eswatini to benefit from India’s expertise in key sectors such as space technology.
He said sharing knowledge in this field could help Eswatini accelerate its development trajectory and strengthen its position in the global innovation landscape.
