MATSAPHA- The inaugural Bakers Awards 2026, hosted by Cake Baking Eswatini, has set a bold new benchmark in celebrating talent, creativity, and entrepreneurship within the country’s rapidly growing baking industry.
Held at The Gallery Hotel, the prestigious event delivered an evening of glitz and glamour while also providing life-changing rewards and securing strong commitments from key national stakeholders.
From its very first edition, the awards proved to be more than just a ceremony. They became a platform for empowerment. Outstanding bakers walked away with remarkable prizes including stoves, fridges, sofa couches, microwaves, and baking hampers, alongside certificates and trophies recognizing their excellence and dedication.
The event brought together industry leaders, judges, sponsors, and aspiring entrepreneurs, all united by a shared vision of uplifting local talent. Organizers and judges commended participants for their high level of creativity, innovation, and professionalism displayed across various categories.
Among the standout winners, Smangele Dlamini scooped the Best Social Media Presence Award, walking away with an iPhone sponsored by CloudNine. Hloniphile Masondo impressed judges by securing both the Best Theoretical Knowledge Award and top honours in the youth category, winning a stove and a fridge.
Sindi Mhlanga was recognized for excellence in financial literacy, while Hloniphile Lukhele stood out for exceptional cake presentation, earning a six-seater couch. Lungile Mdzele captivated judges with a cake that told a compelling story, winning a microwave. Young talent Sphesihle Matsebula was celebrated as the youngest baker, highlighting the growing participation of youth in the industry.
Tenele Sibandze also made a mark by winning the Best Dressed Baker Award, while Nonkhululeko Nkhambule was honoured for her advocacy within the baking community.
These winners exemplified not only technical skill but also passion, resilience, and the immense future potential of Eswatini’s baking sector.
In a major boost for the industry, key institutions pledged support toward the growth and sustainability of baking entrepreneurship. Youth Fund Eswatini committed to supporting young bakers, while the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, represented by Meluleki Dlamini, pledged assistance aimed at strengthening small business development within the sector. The BSA Training Centre further reinforced its commitment to skills development and empowerment.
These commitments signal a turning point, positioning baking not merely as a craft but as a viable economic driver capable of creating employment and transforming livelihoods.
Speaking after the event, Cake Baking Eswatini founder Sibusiso Mashwama expressed gratitude and pride in the success of the inaugural awards.
