Chery South Africa has announced that its Tiggo 7 CSH has achieved a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating, confirming strong protection for passengers in a range of crash scenarios.
The vehicle features a high-strength steel construction, eight airbags, advanced driver assistance systems, and protected electrified powertrains. Euro NCAP testing recorded the following scores for the Tiggo 7 CSH: adult occupant protection 82%, child occupant protection 85%, vulnerable road users 80%, and safety assist systems 78%.
During frontal offset tests, the passenger compartment remained stable, with good or adequate protection for critical body areas. Side-impact and pole tests showed strong protection, while rear-impact testing confirmed that front seats and head restraints effectively reduced whiplash risk. The car also demonstrated post-collision braking support, enhancing safety beyond the moment of impact.

“South African families need to know their vehicle will look after them in the real world, not just on paper,” said Verene Petersen, national marketing & communications manager at Chery South Africa. “The Tiggo 7 CSH’s five-star Euro NCAP rating, strong structure and comprehensive safety systems give that confidence, while the electrified powertrain and practical features and technology make it easy to live with every day.”
The vehicle’s body incorporates approximately 60% high-strength steel, with key load-bearing areas reinforced using 1 500 MPa hot-formed steel to improve crash energy management. Electrified models, such as the Tiggo 7 CSH plug-in hybrid, include an IP68-rated LFP battery protected by a 780 MPa high-strength steel underplate, with continuous monitoring and rapid power isolation in case of a collision.

Recent crash test results have seen other models, such as the Hyundai Grand i10 and Toyota Corolla Cross, score lower ratings in Global NCAP assessments. Hyundai’s Grand i10 received a zero-star rating for adult occupant protection, while the Corolla Cross scored two stars, primarily due to limited side head protection on some models. Both manufacturers stated that their vehicles comply with local safety regulations.
Chery South Africa has stressed that the Tiggo 7 CSH is not “cheap and nasty” and meets some of the world’s most demanding independent safety standards.
