Netflix will release its new sci-fi action film War Machine on March 6, 2026, starring Alan Ritchson alongside Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, Esai Morales, Blake Richardson, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Daniel Webber. The film is directed, co-written, and co-produced by Patrick Hughes, who collaborated on the script with James Beaufort.

War Machine follows a team of U.S. Army Ranger recruits who encounter an extraordinary threat during a training exercise. The trailer shows Ritchson and his fellow soldiers fleeing after their discovery, with Ritchson warning, “Whatever that thing is, it’s hunting us, and it won’t stop. It’s not about us anymore. It is warning everybody that thing’s coming.”

Dennis Quaid plays Army Sgt Maj Sheridan, while Esai Morales appears as Army Officer Torres. Other cast members include Jake Ryan, Jack Patten, Jacob Hohua, Alex King, Joshua Diaz, Will Curtis, and Thomas Evans.

Patrick Hughes, known for directing The Hitman’s Bodyguard and The Man From Toronto, is also set to helm Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming film about former Navy SEAL Mike Thornton, which also stars Ritchson. Hughes produces War Machine alongside Todd Lieberman, Alex Young, Greg McLean, and Rich Cook, with Valerie Bleth Sharp as executive producer.

Ritchson, who previously starred in Amazon’s Reacher series and films such as Playdate and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, discussed balancing career success with personal priorities in a 2024 cover story for The Hollywood Reporter. “I try to keep my eyes fixed on opportunities to serve others. It’s faith, family, mental health, business practices — all of it is sort of prioritized in the right way that it can work together well in concert,” he said.

Filming for War Machine began on September 16, 2024, in Victoria, Australia, with Gelareh Kiazand as cinematographer, and wrapped on December 14, 2024. Netflix acquired distribution rights from Lionsgate, which had initially developed the film.
