Vusweni – Deputy Prime Minister Thulisile Dladla has handed over three newly built houses to vulnerable families in Magele in Mtsambamba, Vusweni in Maseyisini and Mampondweni in Zombodze Emuva, as part of a national effort to restore dignity and safety to citizens living in unsafe conditions.
The handovers took place this week under an initiative led by His Majesty King Mswati III and supported by several partners working with government to improve housing conditions for vulnerable households across the country.
In Magele, a 43 year old widow, Gcwalisile Mmema, and her five children received a new home after years of living in a dangerous borrowed structure. Government allocated land to the family, where the house was constructed to provide a stable and secure living environment.
During the handover, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed encouragement that the children were attending school and spoke on government’s continued commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable citizens.
At Vusweni under Maseyisini Inkhundla, a 67 year old man, Zakhele Ndlangamandla, was presented with a new house after spending years living in a dilapidated corrugated iron structure. Ndlangamandla expressed deep gratitude to the Deputy Prime Minister and area Member of Parliament Nokuthula Dlamini for persistently following up on his case until assistance was provided.
The Deputy Prime Minister said the house was built through the support of His Majesty the King and the Philip Morris Foundation, adding that her office, through the National Disaster Management Agency, takes pride in delivering complete homes equipped with kitchens, toilets and water tanks.
In Mampondweni in Zombodze Emuva, Mduduzi Dlamini, his wife and their children received a new house after their previous home was destroyed by a storm last year. The family was initially assisted with a tent, which was later destroyed, before they were temporarily accommodated by a neighbour.
Describing the incident as heartbreaking, the Deputy Prime Minister thanked the National Disaster Management Agency, the Inkhundla Council and community members for working together to help the family regain stability.
She also spoke about the need to repair roads to ensure that schoolchildren can travel safely to and from school. Regional Member of Parliament Lindiwe Mamba donated E1000 towards the beneficiaries.
